This week, one of my clients asked me a question: "Who am I to share my message? Who am I to teach people? Who the hell am I to call myself an expert?"
Her journey began in a place of personal struggle. Lost and grappling with depression and anxiety, she sought out alternative solutions and discovered methods that offered relief. After months of personal exploration and experimentation, she not only found these methods beneficial but also began sharing them with friends and acquaintances, providing support and guidance free of charge. Despite seeing the positive impact of her efforts, she hesitates to label herself as an expert or to monetise her services, fearing judgment and questioning her level of experience.
Yet, deep down, she feels a strong sense of calling and purpose. She's excited about embarking on this new journey, finding fulfillment in helping others and witnessing tangible results.
However, she finds herself caught in a tug-of-war between following her passion and succumbing to the doubts fuelled by her inner critic. It's a challenging place to be, especially when trying to build a brand or start a business.
I empathise with her struggle because I've been there myself. When I launched my own business, I grappled with constant self-doubt and battled imposter syndrome, which seemed to be my constant companion.
But then, someone shared a perspective-shifting insight with me that changed everything. I found myself echoing those same words to my client to help her navigate her fears.
I told her: "You may be wrestling with imposter syndrome, but you're also uniquely equipped to improve your clients' lives in a way that no one else can. You're already ahead of them, having walked the path they're on now. Yesterday, you were where they are today, which means you have valuable insights to offer them on their journey."
Drawing from my own experiences of overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome, I offered her guidance to navigate her own challenges. I leveraged the wisdom someone once shared with me to shift her perspective. And I'm confident she'll pay it forward, passing on the wisdom to others in need.
So, on those tough days when you find yourself questioning your bold vision, remember how a single piece of advice or insight once shifted your entire perspective or even transformed your life. Recall how a message shared with you led to a breakthrough.
You're ready to share your message with the world. Your experiences, insights, and wisdom have the power to make a profound impact.
Embrace your journey, and trust that your voice matters.
