In a world overflowing with advice from "gurus" and experts, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters—your own creativity. We often find ourselves drowning in external strategies, rigid rules, and the pressure to follow trends, while completely neglecting the most powerful source at our disposal: ourselves.
Have you ever stopped to think about how much you already possess within you to build a strong brand presence?
What if I told you that everything you need is already there? You don’t need to fit into someone else's mold or follow the so-called "perfect" strategies.
Branding and social media strategies can feel overwhelming—posting every day, timing your posts just right, jumping on the latest trends, and communicating your brand in a way that aligns with what’s considered "on-brand." How are you supposed to fit into all these rigid frameworks? It’s exhausting just thinking about it, right?
Here’s the thing: while structure and strategy have their place and can provide valuable direction, there’s one critical element often missing from the equation—you.
If you want to build a brand that truly stands out in a marketplace filled with endless possibilities, it’s time to reconnect with the one asset you’ve been overlooking: your creativity.
You are not just a business or a brand; you are an incredibly creative human being. Authenticity isn’t about fitting into a predefined box; it’s about embracing your playful, creative side and letting it shine through in everything you do.
To help you tap into that creativity, here are three exercises I recommend:
1. Reconnect with Your Inner Mentor
This is one of my favorite exercises, and I always assign it as homework before our first strategy session. Find a quiet place and set aside 15-20 minutes. Visualize yourself 5-10 years into the future—the person who has accomplished everything you've ever dreamed of. Who is she? Has she followed trends, or has she listened to herself? Ask her questions and listen to what she has to say. Your future self has all the answers you're looking for.
2. Create a Pinterest Board
Pinterest is my go-to platform for inspiration and creative meditation. It’s a place where you can visually explore your ideas without the noise of social media. Create a personal brand board on Pinterest, not just for yourself but for your inner mentor—your future self. Fill it with color palettes, images, and inspirations that resonate with the authentic you.
3. Go on a Creative Date
Once a month, schedule a creative date with yourself. What does this mean? It’s a day dedicated to nourishing your creativity—visit a museum, library, nature trail, bookstore, or take a creative class like dance or drawing. Even if your work isn’t traditionally “creative,” remember that you are creative at heart. These experiences will boost your creativity in your business and any professional role you play. And go alone—this is your time to connect with your inner creative child.
Take a step back from all the noise. Tune into your own voice. What feels right for you? What excites you? What makes your heart race with possibility?
Remember, a brand built on your terms, guided by your creativity, is a brand that not only stands out but resonates deeply with those who are meant to find it.
Let’s stop following and start creating—on our own terms.
